Quoting a line from Bruce Springsteen, a rock singer admired by Alito, [Senator Durbin] said, “The ‘crushing hand of fate’ here seems to always come down against the workers and the consumers and in favor of these established institutions and corporations.” (The Washington Post)
There’s something weird about entering an era in which Supreme Court Justices listen to rock music.
Not really sure what your point is here. Rock has been around for fifty years. What do you want them to listen to?
I don’t know if this is related but I felt extremely old hearing a musaq version of Madonna’s “Like A Virgin”.
I don’t really have a point, except that rock has been around for fifty years. I’m guessing Rehnquist didn’t listen to it.
The boomers were thought of as being all rebellious and now they’re the establishment. Everyone knows that, but this was an interesting illustration of it.
At all not even on the radio while stuck in beltway traffic?
Meet the new boss. Same as the old boss.
I would go with not at all even on the radio while stuck in Beltway traffic. I mean, I’m sure he heard it in his life, but it’s not like my grandmother listens to rock music. Ever.
Nah, see I think Rehnquist was wild. Its always the ones you least expect. And Rock or No Rock its Springsteen, who isnt able to quote at least 1 BOSS song?? What i like most about this post is that it has absolutley nothing do with Alito or his qualifications as a Supreme Court Judge.
My mom is not making decisions that affect the whole country,
but she hasn’t since the Beatles so your point is well taken.
I like that this post has nothing to do with Alito or his qualifications too. Maybe if I were paying more attention I’d feel like I could comment on that, but since I’m not, I don’t.
I dunno much about politics but I think all those clowns should be expected to know “Pissing in the Wind Whilst Thinking of Bob Dylan,” the ultimate work of avant garde performance art.
i’ve always thought that springsteen, like so many other rock celebrities – was basically a nascar republican, a simplistic libertarian.
Ross, I whole heartedly agree. Though I adore Dylan I will still admit my love for Springsteen…even today I believe now and then it is ok to say, Yes, I am happy to be an American, but only now and then.
springsteen is actually a bomb-throwing, wall-scrawling, sharpie-stealing anarcho-rockalismo. all that guitar-wielding stuff is just a front. don’t believe the hype.
springsteen is actually a corporate stepladder-climbing, two-timing, silver-tongued businessman. all that anarchist stuff is just a front. don’t believe the hype.
springsteen is actually a rock and rolling, doobie-smoking, strictly heterosexual guitar hero. all that businessman stuff is just a front. don’t believe the hype.
Glenn, I enjoyed the poetic language and rhythms of your post.
